In the recent interviews and at the farewell panel for The Good Wife at the Tribeca Film Festival the showrunners addressed the rumors about Josh Charles, who played Will Gardner, returning in the finale.

It would be the most satisfying ending to the show for many fans who have longed sought closure for Will's sudden death. In an interview with Variety, the showrunners, Robert and Michelle KIng talked about such a possibility. "We don't want to squash those rumors, because why would we?" Robert said. "But there are a lot of possibilities for the last episodes."

Reports from the panel also strongly hinted at the fact that Will might return. Michelle responded to the talk of the speculation with a dose of wit. Mashable reported from the event and relayed the choice quote from Michelle about Will in the finale

"I've heard that rumor," said Michelle. "I have also heard other rumors about the finale. I heard that Peter was going to be starting another affair. I heard that Alicia and Eli kissed. I heard that Alicia and Jason ran off happily together. And, I heard that Michelle Obama guest-starred."

She continued: "I will tell you that one of those is true."

The rumors about Charles' return for the finale were set off by a TVLine report. The report stated that Will might return in a flashback scene, that he shares with Alicia (Julianna Margulies). Will died in Season 5 of the show, leaving an utterly devastated Alicia, whose one true great love he was. Even though Alicia has a new man, Jason (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), in her life now, she obviously holds a very special place for Will.

CBS declined to confirm the rumors about Charles returning for the finale.

The finale of Season 7 will air on May 8.

The next episode, entitled 'Party,' will air on April 24.
