It looks like the biggest battles in DICE's extremely successful Battlefield series would be fought in the trenches, as the game developer unveiled the latest addition to the franchise on Friday. Confirming rumors, the upcoming game is branded as Battlefield 1, and it would feature the brutal and epic battles of World War 1.

The upcoming game, which DICE has previously stated as a title which would bring the game back to its roots, would be released worldwide on October 21, across all gaming platforms. This means that PS4, Xbox One and PC players would be able to take part in massive historical battles by the end of the year.

What's particularly interesting about Battlefield 1 is the fact that it is extremely realistic. Taking a completely different path from its main rival, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which has decided to take warfare far into the future, Battlefield 1 would feature realistic gameplay in very real historical scenarios.

In fact, from what could be seen in the official reveal, it seems like the events that are to be featured in the upcoming game would not be set in an alternate timeline at all, which was suggested in a number of rumors that emerged prior to the game's reveal. Notably, fans of the series received the news wholeheartedly, mainly due to the fact that keeping the featured events in the game rooted in real history actually made Battlefield 1 much more awesome.

With the decision to feature World War 1, DICE just gave players the capability to practically relive history and participate in battles which, in no small way, made the world that exists today. Quite literally, Battlefield 1 would allow players to step into history itself.

Apart from this, players would most probably interact with notable historical personalities. In a number of scenes during the reveal, dogfights involving biplanes were prominently featured, one of which seemingly piloted by one of the most famous pilots of all time, the Red Baron.

Battlefield 1 would be featuring a number of notable historical events from numerous countries such as Italy, France, Germany and the Ottoman Empire. If one needs a reminder just how awesome this would be, just imagine riding a horse to a battle that involves military vehicles such as tanks.

Though the details about the game's single-player campaign, as well as other details remain unknown for now, fans of the series are currently in feverish anticipation for the game's actual release. Getting the actual game is just a few months away, after all.
