The next arc of Dragon Ball Super is looking to be one for the ages, as series creator Akira Toriyama officially revealed that Future Trunks would be making an appearance on the hit anime's upcoming arc, which is set to start on June 12. What's even more interesting is the name of the arc's main enemy, which Toriyama states is called Black Goku.

Of course, with an announcement as significant as this, fans of the iconic anime have exploded all over the internet, with many praising the series for bringing back a true fan favorite. Indeed, Trunks is undoubtedly one of the most popular characters in the entire franchise, and after his initial appearance in the first arcs of Dragon Ball Super, fans have been clamoring for the producers to bring him back.

Well, the producers listened, even bringing possibly the most powerful enemy to date, the enigmatic yet certainly deadly Black Goku. While no details about the character have been unveiled thus far, many are speculating that Black Goku would probably be Goku from the future.

Of course, since Goku was already dead in Trunk's initial timeline, it would be quite interesting to see how the anime explains the existence of Black Goku. Avid fans of the franchise believe that a powerful being in the future most probably figured out a way to resurrect the slain Goku, only to turn him evil.

If this is indeed the case, the heroes of the anime are in for one seriously big problem. After all, Goku is undoubtedly the strongest among the protagonists in the series' massive cast. Turning a version of him evil will most certainly result in the most epic battles that the series has shown its fans to date.

Creator Akira Toriyama issued a statement about the massive reveal, candidly poking fun at the complexity of the series' overall narrative.

"There's some confusing bits with time changing here and there, but just bear with me. It should definitely turn out to be a fun story! Even I haven't checked the final script yet. Let's enjoy this together!" he said.

Dragon Ball Super has managed to earn quite a lot of support from old and new fans of the franchise alike, mainly due to the fact that it is the first real Dragon Ball anime series since Dragon Ball GT concluded back in 1997. The fact that it explored a completely new storyline and is canonical with the grand Dragon Ball narrative is yet another reason for the series' success.

Indeed, June would be another awesome month for avid Dragon Ball fans.
