An 83-year-old woman has fought off a Komodo dragon outside of her home. The reptile reportedly attacked Madam Haisah in Indonesia while she was weaving a broom together. The dragon reportedly appeared out of nowhere and bit her arm.

Haisah told AFP: "I have no idea which direction it came from a knife fell from my right hand as the Komodo sunk its teeth into my wrist. There was nobody else around and I knew that I faced a fight for survival."

However, the elderly woman was able to fight off the dragon by giving it a good kick. "I kicked the Komodo on one its front legs with all my strength, it was only one kick but it made the Komodo let go of my hand, then I screamed for help," she said.

The Komodo dragon's bite required Haisah to receive 35 stitches. Her wound had left her initially paralyzed but she has not regained feeling in her hand since the attack. "I'm doing fine now. I hope my hand will return to normal so that I can make brooms again."

The Komodo dragon is a large species of lizard found in Indonesia. It can grow up to 10 feet and weigh up to 150 pounds.
With their sharp teeth, they prey on birds and mammals. Big Komodo dragons feed on deer and carrion.

The reptiles are known to occasionally attack humans. They are known to have special poison glands that temporarily paralyze its prey before consumption.

Last February, two park employees were also attacked by these large reptiles. The lizard reportedly escaped its holding pen and bit the man's leg - leading him to have 40 stitches.
