Sussing out the truth behind X-Files' tentative 11th season is even harder than learning to believe.

Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) returned to excellent ratings in January, and The X-Files six-episode revival left fans begging for more. Series creator Chris Carter has repeated mentioned the potential for another round of episode, as has the Fox execs. If the network is cooking up an 11th season, however, Anderson and Duchovny are currently out of the loop.

"I'm open to the conversation, though they haven't come to us yet. I have no clue when they're going to," Anderson explained to Deadline. "I'm getting on with the rest of my life and I'm booking other jobs, so if it is indeed something that they would like to continue, then that conversation will need to be had. And I have no idea when that will be able to take place at this juncture."

Always in high demand, Anderson is currently lending her talents to Bryan Fuller and Neil Gaiman's American Gods. Although Fox Television Group chairman Gary Newman has cautioned fans another round of episodes wouldn't hit screens until at least the 2017-2018 season, Carter and Co. need to work fast if their going to nail down a schedule. This is doubly true if the writers want season 11 to consist of more than just a half dozen episodes.

"I think there were too few episodes," Duchovny told TV Insider

. "Twenty-two is far too many, but six is too few, so we've got to figure out something right in between."

Are you itching for Mulder and Scully to enter the field once more? Carter left fans hanging with "My Struggle II," and with the looming specter of a UFO still burned into their retinas, fans are undoubtedly eager for answers.
