The Night Shift's doctors left the battlefield behind, but the horrors of war will follow them home in "Unexpected."

TC (Eoin Macken) and his fellow soldiers should brace themselves for episode 9. As the nurses head for the picket lines, the ER will be over run with victims when a bomb explodes just outside the doors of San Antonio Memorial.

"When a bomb explodes outside the hospital, TC, Topher (Ken Leung) and Drew (Brendan Fehr) are forced to make the tough decision to stay and treat the injured or evacuate and begin transfers to nearby hospitals," NBC teased. "While the team works feverishly to tend to the wounded, the nurses go on strike just when the hospital needs them the most."

For the Night Shift's resident maverick, the tragedy will take a turn for the worse as he quickly discovers that he's deduced more about the explosion than he cares to.

"Everything changes when TC suddenly realizes he may know the person responsible for the explosion," the network teased.

Is the bomber a stranger that found himself bundled into the ER after the explosion, or is the terrorist someone a little closer to home? As TC deals with this dangerous information, two San Antonio Memorial's youngest docs will attempt to sort out their private lives amidst the chaos.

"Meanwhile, throughout the intense night shift, Shannon (Tanaya Beatty) and Paul (Robert Bailey, Jr.) attempt to confront each other about something personal," NBC promised.

"Unexpected" will air on July 27. In the meantime, fans can catch "By Dawn's Early Light" (July 6) and "All In" (July 13).
