The Blacklist's Liz Keen is ready to throw her partnership with Red right out the window, run it over, and then kick it down the drain. Mr. Reddington, however, will over look Masha's efforts to carve him out of her life as season 4 begins.

Liz (Megan Boone) and Mr. Kaplan (Susan Blommaert) went through great pains to permanently sever ties with her New York life, but the profiler's father had other ideas. Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) defied his alleged death in the season 3 finale, and, now that he has daughter's undivided attention, Red (James Spader) will be on hand to help solve The Blacklist's latest mystery.

"I can't imagine him abandoning Liz," series creator Jon Bokenkamp told Entertainment Weekly. "She hurt him, but we often hurt the people we love. The fact he's been hurt isn't nearly enough for him to walk away."

But that begs the question - does Liz even want his help? According to Boone, her character would prefer to, and is perfectly capable of, fighting her own battles.

"A stronger Liz will suffer the consequences of extricating him from her life, rather than wish for him to rescue her again," Boone explained in the wake of "Alexander Kirk: Part 2." "That's not to say he won't, just that I think she's become braver and not a damsel in distress. I think she's learned a lot and is able to fight for herself now."

Boone also believes her former Post Office coworkers will understand the drastic measures Liz took to extricate herself from an unhealthy partnership.

"A part of me thinks they'd want freedom for her. They've all seen firsthand the threat that she was under in Red's world," the actress mused. Would Ressler (Diefo Klattenhoff) and Co. want in on her rescue? Boone didn't say, but the FBI team will certainly have a positive reaction to her continued existence. "If they discover she's alive, I think they'll be relieved."

The Blacklist will return to NBC on Sept. 22.
