The last time he was in town it was to say a heart-breaking goodbye to his husband after he was murdered, but now, Sonny (Freddie Smith) will return to Salem once again on Days of Our Lives. 

After a year which saw his ex, Paul (Christopher Sean) show up in town and a lot of drama in his marriage to Will because of both his history with Paul and Will's more recent affair with him, Sonny had decided he needed time away from both of them to figure out what was best for him, and he went off to work at a family company in Paris. While he was gone, an unsuspecting Will found himself becoming the third victim of The Necktie Killer, a.k.a Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson), when Ben realized he had figured out that he was the one who was committing the murders and not Chad (Billy Flynn).

Sonny flew home to say his goodbyes, but soon left again because being in town and knowing he would never get to see his husband again was too difficult for him to handle. However, now, almost a year has come to pass, and his time to move on has arrived. And with that, as well as other issues in his family going on, he will head back to town, for good this time.

As he first begins helping out with the things his family needs him for, he will also get back into the swing of life in Salem, and among the things that will help get back into it, will be his running into Paul.

Paul will of course be delighted to see him, and Sonny will be happy to see him too. The two will decide to catch up over everything they've missed in one another's lives the last few months, and may rehash some of the stuff with Will as well. However, as they continue to bond, it won't escape either one of them that the chemistry they once shared with each other is definitely still there-and they may realize soon enough that it is something that is worth exploring.

Days of Our Lives airs Monday-Friday at 1 p.m. on NBC.
