Derek Hough is a very busy man these days, but will he be able to fit in a new season of Dancing With the Stars, too?

Hough had to sit out of the most recent season of Dancing With the Stars due to his hectic schedule. The fan favorite pro is now busy preparing for the NBC production of Hairspray Live!, with Hough playing musical hunk Corny Collins as well as an upcoming Broadway production of Singin' in the Rain, where he is playing male lead Don Lockwood.

With all of these projects and more ahead for Hough, the pro will not be part of the next season of Dancing With the Stars. However, Hough is not totally counting out a return someday.

"I'm not one for closing chapters in that way, especially for something that's so important to me," Hough told E! News recently, "and that's been like family for so many tears. So, for me in my mind, that door is always open, and we'll see!"

Hough also spoke about his fellow DWTS pro Kym Johnson getting married to Shark Tank star Robert Herjavec.

"They're really inspiring, their love is so visible," Hough said. The dancer attended their wedding last weekend, in which he said, "Everyone was dancing, lots of dancing, lots of fun times. It was great!"

Hough has long been considered one of the standout pros on Dancing With the Stars and currently holds the record for most Mirrorball trophies won, with six. He won with Brooke Burke in season 7, Nicole Scherzinger in season 10, Jennifer Grey in season 11, Kellie Pickler in season 16, Amber Riley in season 17 and Bindi Irwin in season 21. He has also placed in the finals multiple times, coming in second with Shawn Johnson in season 15 and Amy Purdy in season 18 and third with Ricki Lake in season 13. The pro has not placed below sixth in his entire run on the show.

Dancing With the Stars season 23 premieres Monday, Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
