McKayla Maroney may have set the world on fire with her "not impressed" face in the 2012 Olympics, but she's very happy to have passed that torch onto another famous U.S. athlete.

Maroney became a certified meme queen at the London Olympics thanks to her "not impressed" face - a face that continues to be used all over the Internet to this day. But thanks to a hilarious face from another athlete at the 2016 Rio Olympics, her time as the reigning Olympic meme champion may be over.

The gymnast spoke with TMZ recently about Michael Phelps' hilarious "angry face" meme that's been circulating since the beginning of this year's Olympics.

"I'm looking at them right now, they're amazing," she said, of the Phelps face. "I now see why people thought it was so funny. They're hilarious. They're amazing. Somebody tweeted me like, 'McKayla, looks like somebody took your spot.' And I was like what? And I looked at his pictures and I was like, 'Yes! Go Michael, take it away, please!'"

Maroney also said that Phelps would "win a gold medal for sure" if his goal was to make a fantastic meme.

Despite winning a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics, Maroney admitted back in February that she was retiring from elite gymnastics.

"The reason why I wanted to go to this next Olympics - I finally figured it out. I wanted to show people that when everyone else is up against them, they can get through the struggle and the pain and do it because they love something." Maroney told Gymcastic at the time. "One day I was sitting outside and I was like 'Why am I doing this? Yeah it's cool that I want to do it and help inspire people but I didn't know how to be okay with not being a gymnast. I go to a Starbucks or Jamba Juice or anything and they're like 'Are you going to the next one?' Until the other day, I was not OK with saying no and I had no choice in my mind with being something else.

"I'm just ready to put my worth and value into something else," she added. "I'm just ready to be excited about something else. I just got so bored with being unhealthy."

Maroney is now working on her music career, with her first single, "Ghost", slated to come out on Sept. 8.
