Some people say that this year NASA is literally taking pumpkin carving out of the world.

Halloween just ended yesterday and with that comes the surprises that ocurred. NASA hosted a friendly competition amongst its engineers where they had to carve pumpkins. It was a fair game where a day before contestants get to choose their pumpkins then the next day they had an hour with it.

Only pumpkins were provided and other things had to be brought  by the contestants to encourage creativity. That being said, the engineers did engage in creativity, a lot of it.

There are videos of the competition going around the internet where the contestants would start out by just adding lights but when they were done they would create entire mechanical components inside the pumpkins.

The Huffington Post mentioned how they used various mechanical tools to turn pumpkins into telescopes, helicopters, and other various devices which used power to run.

In fact  there were also pumpkins which engaged in a healthy and harmless shaming of the two presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

According to Popular Mechanics, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory division at NASA really pulled it off when it came to creative designs. They created monsters out of the pumpkins with moving jaws and sharp teeth. Even a Pac Man edition was made with a moving mouth and sound effects.

There was another pumpkin which was carved out to refer to movie shows. Another one which was painted and cut out to look like a space ship and which was then attached to a rotatory motor in order for it to spin around.

Other props were added to the pumpkins such as bases and backdrops which would give the pumpkins a bit more of a theme and a story. These were details not many people think about in open pumpkin carving competitions and they could very well be some of the best pumpkins created.

It was truly one of the biggest mix of creativity the world has seen this year.
