Jim Carrey will face trial in April of 2018 over the death of his ex-girlfriend and makeup artist, Cathriona White.

White, who was 30, was found dead in her Los Angeles home on Sept. 28, 2015. Her mother, Brigid Sweetman, and former husband, Mark Burton, are claiming that Carrey supplied her with the pills she used for her overdose.

The actor's lawyers requested for the lawsuits to be thrown out, defining them as "malicious" and "predatory", however, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Dierdre Hill has set a trial date for April 26, 2018.

"What a terrible shame. It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man's lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honour against the evil in this world." Carrey said in a statement responding to the lawsuits.

The actor proceeded to clear his name, "I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved. Cat's troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone's control."

"I really hope that someday soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace."

Sweetman alleged Carrey gave White "three sexually transmitted diseases without warning her," and, "lying to her about it, dumping her out of concern for saving his own public image, calling her a 'whore' and shaming her, and then using his high-priced Hollywood lawyers and 'fixers' to intimidate and threaten her in an effort to silence her."

The former couple had been on and off since 2012 until White's death. An investigator ruled White's death as suicide.
