Jay-Z released his new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail to Samsung users on Thursday and the reviews are in.

The 43-year-old rapper's 12th solo studio album features collaborations with Justin Timberlake, Rick Ross, Frank Ocean, his wife Beyonce, Swizz Beats, Pharrell, Nas and Timbaland. There are a few references to Jay-Z and Beyonce's one-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, on the album and even former Disney star, Miley Cyrus.

Steve Jones of USA Today gave the new album a perfect score, indicating that the rapper challenges himself and expreses epic aspirations.

"Jay-Z set the bar high for himself with the buildup given in this album... since the surprise announcement that it would be available for free to 1 million Samsung customers on Fourth of July," he wrote.

Jeff Rosenthal of Billboard said the album is "great," but not a classic. The music writer even said MCHG was disappointing.

"As an album, though, it tends to be safe. He's surrounded by friends, in the commercials and on the tracks: there's Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, Swizz Beatz, Nas, Rick Ross, Frank Ocean, Timbaland and Justin Timberlake. It's in the same vein as "Watch The Throne," Rosenthal wrote.

Jim Farber of The New York Daily News gave the LP 4 out of 5 stars, saying "The rap icon balances his trademark fun, witty boasts with some introspection and thoughts on the world on his latest release."

On Thursday, Twitter went into a frenzy about the new album.

"Magna Carta forced me to go get a haircut. Couldn't continue listening to the scriptures with my hair like Tim Duncan," one user tweeted Thursday.

"Magna Carta Chillin on my July 4th with Jay-Z Album on straight repeat!!!!!!!!!!," another wrote.

"Four tracks in. this sounds good. but, umm, i haven't found this particularly interesting. #magnacarta" an user wrote.
