Katy Perry and Britney Spears officially met for the first time on Sunday at The Smurfs 2 premiere in Westwood, Calif.

Right before meeting face-to-face at the Regency Village Theatre, Perry, who brought her grandmother along, told E! News, "I can't wait to meet her." The 28-year-old singer also revealed how she did back-up vocals for Spears' Ooh La La soundtrack, but never actually recorded with her in the studio.

"Me and Bonnie [McKee] secretly did some background vocals on that song," she noted. "So maybe listen for our voices."

After spotting each other at the premiere, the two pop stars gave each other a hug and later sent out messages of their excitement.

Perry tweeted, "OMG!!!!! I CAN'T IM CRYING," while Spears, 31, wrote, "So great to see you Smurfette @katyperry!"

Perry, who voiced Smurfette for the film, wore to the premiere a long lavender dress that had a leather bottom and lace top. Spears, who brought along sons Jaden and Sean, opted for a sky-blue form-fitting dress.

Spears hinted her next meet-up with Perry when she tweeted the Wide Awake singer "Can't wait for our Vegas date." Spears most likely referrenced the iHeart Radio Music Festival on Sep. 20 at the MGM Grand, where Perry is scheduled to perform.

Spears will be in Vegas for her two-year residency at Planet Hollywood, where she is expected to host pool parties and perform a "cool, hip club-like show," according to TMZ sources. On Monday, the mother of two was back in the studio working on her new album.

"Ok, play time's over! Back to dance rehearsals, writing and recording. #GameTime #LetsGO," she tweeted.

In a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest, she dished what her eighth studio album will be about.

"I want to definitely take this album and have a new approach with it and make it a little different than anything I've ever done," Spears revealed.
