The future of Hulu's The Orville is in question, as it Seth MacFarlane is moving onto new projects - such as a Ted prequel series on Peacock.

The Orville was Seth MacFarlane's baby, but it's unclear if it will continue now that he's looking to once again branch out into new things. The entertainer not only created and stars in the space dramadey - which originally aired on Fox before it was cut after season 2 - he also writes, directs, and executive produces it - and while it was always a passion project of his, that's a lot of work to be putting into one series.

MacFarlane, seemingly always looking forward to his next big project, is now looking to move on - and unfortunately, that may mean the end of The Orville after this third season. Rumor has it (according to Deadline) that there has been no talk of renewal at Hulu thus far, and that the lead actors have all been released from their contracts.

This may be incredibly disappointing to many fans, especially considering the fact that Season 3 was probably never meant to be a capstone to the series as a whole. Development on it began before the pandemic, which was a very different time entertainment-wise as much as anything else.

Leaving the door open for MacFarlane to return if he wishes may leave fans of The Orville with hope - but it would also leave them without a satisfying conclusion or real closure for their favorite characters.

Of course, this is all only rumors and speculation as of right now - no official decisions have been announced by MacFarlane, or by Hulu.

Enstarz will be sure to update when we know more.
