Although the serial killer narrative was the only reason Texas detective Sonya Cross (Diane Kruger) and Mexican sleuth Marco Ruiz (Demian Bichir) ever paired up in the first place, it appears that the Bridge's season long mystery will wrap up soon.

"[We will] put it away in dramatic fashion before the end of the season," said executive producer Elwood Reid on Friday, according to TV Guide.

The FX show blends the harsh dessert expanse of southern Texas with the politics of boarder patrol and immigration to create a cross-culture cop program. Bouncing between El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Mexico, the drama focused on a serial killer's victim that was left on a bridge between the two countries.

In order to solve the case of the boarder-hopping murderer, Cross and Ruiz teamed up in an unlikely partnership that many would never have occurred without the help of the killer. With the suspect out of the picture and the case closed behind them, what will be left to hold this partnership together for season 2?

Everything is connected," Reid said, according to TV Guide. "The thing that's taking place radically changes the lives of our characters. The killer, in a way, connects all the characters."

The last few episodes of season 1 are meant to set up the plot for next year with a focus on the politics and crime on the boarder and those that enforce the rules, something that will certainly provide enough fodder for at least one more season.

We'd been trying for years to set a show at the U.S.-Mexico border," said FX CEO John Landgraf, according to the TV Guide. "When this came along, we were stunned because not only was it a good story anywhere you set it, but it became an even better, more specific story when you set it there."

The Bridge airs on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on FX.
