It's the 20th anniversary of Avril Lavigne's breakout album Let Go and the punk-pop icon is not letting the milestone go by uncelebrated.

This is anything BUT complicated. Musical phenom Avril Lavigne's breakout album, titled Let Go came out on June 4th, 2002. It was a smash hit. The songs included bops we still blast today including "Complicated," "Sk8er Boi," and "Breakaway." Now, twenty years into an illustrious career, the star has released a 20th anniversary edition of the well-loved album with an extended version of the hit song, "Breakaway" with Lavigne herself on vocals.

Anyone who was a true Zillennial may have a few bells going off in their brains. Wait, wasn't "Breakaway" a Kelly Clarkson song? While Clarkson was the first to record the song, as we all remember seeing her in those commercial-break Disney music videos sitting a tree staring at the sky, the song was actually written by Avril Lavigne. Now, on this 20th anniversary album, Lavigne is singing a beautiful and extended version of the song herself.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!

According to an article on Billboard, Avril Lavigne has found a director to helm the film adaptation of her (dare-I-say) classic song "Sk8er Boi." Lavigne said to Billboard, "I can't wait to learn this process of making a movie...I think I'll want to make more."

She managed to stay pure to herself and her sound from the very beginning. Now, twenty years down the line, the star reflected on her experience being a teen breakout hit.

"I didn't even know what Hollywood was or what record deals were...They didn't care what I had to say; they had their own style and didn't bother to look at me and try to let me lead," she said. But, as her music has always shown, Lavigne did have a lot to say and a very specific way of saying it. "I was very clear on what I wanted to do and what I didn't want to do," she continued. "I wanted to be angsty and to sound more like a band; I didn't want to be all bubblegum pop. I wanted to turn my emotions into lyrics. I was honestly just very, very pure."

Congratulations on twenty years! We can't wait to see what comes next!
