Actress Abigail Breslin details her dark past amidst Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Abigail Breslin is prominently known for her role in the horror comedy film, "Zombieland" as Little Rock. She has also appeared in several films and made her Broadway debut as Helen Keller in "The Miracle Worker".

Abigail Recalls Her Dark Past

The "Stillwater" star recently took to Instagram to share her experience in light of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In her Instagram post, Abigail recalled her relationship which had started "perfectly" and that she was "so in love" until things took a turn for worse. Her abuser had taken advantage of her "innocence and naïveté" and, thus, turned violent towards her.

"As a DV survivor, I felt compelled to write a little about my story," Breslin wrote on Instagram. "I was in a very abusive relationship for close to two years. It all started out perfectly, I was so in love. Unfortunately, my abuser took advantage of my innocence and naïveté and the relationship subsequently became violent."

Breslin shared her tragic experience as getting "beaten on a regular basis, locked into rooms, and forced to pretend everything was okay and normal while dealing with intense injuries" while she was in her abusive 2-year relationship.

The Aftermath of Domestic Abuse

As Abigail Breslin detailed the pain she went through, she admitted that she still suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder following the relationship, but says that things have been much more manageable now amidst healing.

"The aftermath of abuse is a complicated and individual experience. I hope sharing a bit more about my story at least helps some people feel a little bit less alone," Breslin concluded her Instagram post. "If you are in an abusive relationship currently, you CAN get out of it. I know it seems impossible and terrifying, but you have survived so much and you CAN survive leaving if you have the right tools and support."

The 26-year-old actress has announced that she is now in a "wonderful, healthy, happy, and amazing relationship". As of now, she is reportedly dating her longtime boyfriend Ira Kunyansky, to whom she is recently engaged to since February.
