After a year that brought fans "Barbie," "Oppenheimer" and other blockbusters, 2024 promises another exhilarating lineup of highly anticipated films and stellar performances.

Variety released its list of the most anticipated movies and performances of 2024, giving film lovers a sneak peek into the diverse offerings awaiting them.

5. "Wicked: Part One" - Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande

The musical adaptation of the Tony Award-winning "Wicked" is set to star Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda. Erivo is expected to perform "Defying Gravity," while Grande will showcase her vocal chops for "Popular."

In a December interview with People, Jonathan Bailey, who plays Prince Fiyero, teased, "It's going to blow people's minds. So get ready. You've got a year to prepare."

The adaptation will be split into two films, with the first installment hitting theaters on Nov. 27.

4. "Deadpool 3" - Hugh Jackman

The most anticipated superhero movie of the year, "Deadpool 3," is set to bring back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine alongside Ryan Reynolds.

The dynamic duo is expected to deliver a barrage of one-liners and witty banter, making it a fan-favorite.

Emma Corrin is also part of the cast, potentially playing the lead villain, Deadline reported.

"Deadpool 3" is scheduled for release on July 26.

3. "Freaky Tales" - Pedro Pascal

Set in 1987 Oakland, California, "Freaky Tales" weaves four interconnected tales featuring teen punks, a rap duo, a henchman seeking redemption and an NBA All-Star, according to a synopsis provided by The Hollywood Reporter.

Starring Pedro Pascal, Jay Ellis, Normani Kordei Hamilton, and more, the film, directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, is set to premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 18.

2. "Joker: Folie à Deux" - Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga takes on the role of Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character in the highly anticipated "Joker: Folie à Deux."

Expected to explore a complicated romance between Harley and Joker at Arkham Asylum, "Folie à Deux" is a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster.

Directed by Todd Phillips, it is set to hit theaters on Oct. 24. 

1. "Queer" - Daniel Craig

Directed by Luca Guadagnino, "Queer" is an adaptation of William S. Burroughs' novel. Daniel Craig plays Burroughs' alter ego, an outcast American expat living in Mexico, while Drew Starkey stars as the younger man with whom he becomes infatuated.

The film will also feature Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, and Henrique Zaga.

Though the official premiere date is pending, the movie wrapped filming in June 2023.
