Following the Tuesday announcement of Sandra Oh's departure from the ABC series Grey's Anatomy at the completion of season 10, many fans took to Twitter to express their sadness about saying goodbye to Dr. Cristina Yang.

Oh has starred in the medical drama since season 1, which aired in 2005. She is Meredith Grey's best friend - her "person" - and experienced her own ups and downs in her personal relationships. Burke left her waiting at the altar and in the season 9 finale she, once again, ended her relationship will Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) after deciding him that he wants children and she would never be enough. The last few minutes of the episode showed Cristina walking away from Owen and figuratively, from their relationship.

Oh said of her decision to leave the show, "Creatively, I really feel like I gave it my all, and I feel ready to let her go." However, many Twitter users hope she would stick around longer. One social media user wrote, "raise your hand if you don't want that sandra oh leaves greys!" along with the below image.

One of the show's writers and producers, Dan Bucatinsky, tweeted, "We will miss her! But what a pro. What an amazing talent!!!" Another wrote, "She's 1 of own great Canadian actors! What's she going to do? We love u Sandra! ❤Home:)XoXo..."

Some Twitter users even had suggestions of how Oh's character should exit the show. One such idea was that Cristina should walk away with finally getting the coveted Harper Avery award. Others created memes about Oh's departure. The below photo was uploaded with the caption saying that it shows "when the fandom heard the news about Sandra Oh leaving."

Oh's departure was revealed to the Grey's Anatomy cast during their table read on Tuesday. After reading the script, co-star Camilla Luddington (intern Jo Wilson) tweeted, "Not just as a castmember- as a fan I'm devestated yang is leaving :(" followed by "And now more than ever I'm wondering what the writers have in store this season for all of us..."

Oh told The Hollywood Reporter she is leaving Grey's Anatomy to pursue other opportunities. She will star in only 24 more episodes of the show when season 10 of the medical drama airs Thursday, Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. with a two-hour season premiere.
