New spoilers were released about the upcoming third season of Homeland with surprising new details about Saul (Mandy Patinkin) and his relationship with Carrie (Claire Danes).

In episode 2 of the new season, Saul will do something "unforgivable" in Carrie's eyes, according to a Thursday report by E!Online. Whatever Saul does may be enough to sever their close friendship forever and the report claims that the end of the episode will be hard to watch for fans of their relationship. The event is so big that it will "put a knife in the hearts" of viewers who support their partnership.

As for what type of event this might be, Showtime released promotional pictures for the episode on Tuesday and one of the photos may be revealing. The photo features Saul consoling Carrie, who seems visibly worn out. The official trailer for season 3 features this particular scene, with Saul telling Carrie "I'm so sorry."

It's possible that Saul might be lying to Carrie about the status of Brody (Damian Lewis), who left the country in the season 2 finale after being framed for the bombing at Langley. Saul could be telling Carrie that Brody had died so that she could properly move on from him. Carrie has spent much of the series obsessed with Brody to such an extent that she developed strong feelings for him.

Saul and Carrie will spend much of the first few episodes testifying about the Langley bombing, so Saul may want Carrie to focus on that rather than worry about Brody's safety.

Season 3 of Homeland is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
