While the BBC may be planning Doctor Who celebrations across the pond, American Whovians are left with few ways to express their enthusiasm for the 50th Anniversary.

A sci-fi group in New York City is looking to change that.

The NY SciFi and Fantasy club is currently circulating an online petition to light up the Empire State Building in a hue of TARDIS blue on the night of Nov. 23.

"This is the first time a SciFi show has lasted 50 years. It's a landmark occasion," the group writes in it's Change.org  petition description. "The Doctor has visited NYC many times over the years, most recently earlier this season. Now NYSciFi & Fantasy (www.NYSciFi.com) wants to bring NYC to The Doctor to celebrate!"

Although New York has the unfortunate reputation of being the final resting place of Amy and Rory Pond following the events of "The Angels Take Manhattan," the current iteration of the Doctor Who series also brought David Tennant to 1930s Manhattan for "Daleks in Manhattan" and "The Evolution of the Daleks" while various print publications include tales of the Doctor in the Big Apple.

With over 6,000 signatures already, the group is looking to reach 10,000.

The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special, "The Day of the Doctor," will air on Nov. 23. Watch the introduction of the Unnumbered Doctor (John Hurt) in the clip below.
