The next iteration of humans are fighting a battle for existence on the CW's The Tomorrow People.

A new sci-fi series featuring Mark Pellegrino of Supernatural, the Phil Klemmer (Veronica Mars, Chuck) created show started off slow and vague but quickly ramped up the action and special effects, which, combined with an unpredictable storyline that leaves viewers slightly off balance with each twist, led to the network extending the program by three scripts, according to TV Guide.

Focused on a group of advanced humans (also known as The Tomorrow People) with telekinetic powers, the story follows the journey of Stephen Jameson (Robbie Amell) as he us suddenly thrust into a world where he and his brethren are hunted by Ultra, an organization that seeks to wipe them off the evolutionary chain. In an effort to help find The Tomorrow People a safe haven, Steven works to find his long-lost father only to discover that there is a familial relation running Ultra. By the end of the pilot, Steven will make a decision you would never see coming.

For those wondering, the series will turn out to be less blood and gore than a normal superhero program since there is one thing The Tomorrow People are not able to do.

"It's one of my favorite parts of the storyline," Amell told KsiteTV. "It's very cool. I think it separates it from most other superhero stories. It separates it from X-Men, it separates it from Heroes. But you find out some really interesting information about the gene within us - it's called the Prime Barrier - that stops us from killing."
