Fans of BBC's Sherlock continue to eagerly await the news of its season 3 release date, which has still yet to be announced.

After quite the exciting end to a sophomore installment that saw Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) fake his own death, loyalists must now hold off on the storyline's outcome until further notice.

Previous season 3 launch rumors stated that the popular program would make its return on one of the following three dates:

In October 2013, during a Christmas Special or in early 2014.

According to Latin Times, the most likely of the three is in early 2014 due to "compiled snippets of information from the cast and producers and it's safe to say that the air date will be after the new year."

One of the snippets came from actor Martin Freeman while he was on the red carpet for BAFTA. He had stated that Sherlock would make its return in December of this year or January 2014.

Since three of the TV series' episodes per season run for 90 minutes, the site suggests that the most appropriate time for it to air would be "over the holiday season."

Interestingly enough, the BBC network had said that the post-production process would run until November.

"Post-production will still be on-going for Sherlock until way into November," the network said.
