TV reboots and remakes have become one of the staples of television in the modern age. With the announcement that CBS would be rebooting Charmed and NBC would be remaking Murder, She Wrote, the networks are hoping to repeat the success of the original shows.

However, for every Battlestar Galactica, the 2004 remake that went on for six successful years, there is a Charlie's Angels, the 2011 reboot that only lasted eight episodes.

Most recently, NBC tried to reboot Ironside, a show that thrived on their network from 1967-1975. The new 2013 remake, starring Blair Underwood, couldn't even get past four episodes without getting canceled due to low ratings.

On the other hand, CBS remade Hawaii Five-O (1968-1980) in 2010 and the reboot has continued to thrive on the network for four seasons.

As long as networks are around, they will try to recapture the success of their previous hits.
