Eminem's new album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 topped the Billboard 200 chart selling 792,000 copies in its first week.

The album became the second-highest first-week sales in the U.S. this year. Justin Timberlake still holds the No. 1 spot with The 20/20 Experience, which sold close to one million copies when it was released in March. Drake now sits at the third spot with Nothing Was The Same, which sold 658,000 copies.

Eminem's new album is his seventh consecutive record to go to No. 1. His debut album, The Slim Shady LP, was the only one to peak at No. 2 when it was released in 1999.

The Marshall Mathers LP 2 also sold more copies than his previous release, Recovery. The album sold 741,000 in its first week of release in 2010.

Eminem recently spoke about his new album, which hit stores on Nov. 5, with Rolling Stone and explained that The Marshall Mathers LP 2 is reminiscent of his old sound.

"So there's not gonna be, like, continuations of every old song on there or anything like that," he told the magazine in the November issue. "To me, it's more about the vibe, and it's more about the nostalgia."

He also said that he wants his follow-up to 2000's The Marshall Mathers LP to live up to expectations since many deem the prequel his best record to date.

"Calling it The Marshall Mathers LP 2, obviously I knew that there might be certain expectations," he said. "I wouldn't want to call it that just for the sake of calling it that. I had to make sure that I had the right songs - and just when you think you got it, you listen and you're like, 'F--k, man! I feel like it needs this or that,' to paint the whole picture."
