As ABC's The View and CBS's The Talk compete for daytime viewers, Julie Chen believes Jenny McCarthy isn't helping give The View the extra boost it needs.

Denizen of The Talk, Chen and co-host Sharon Osborne appeared on Howard Stern's radio show on Wednesday and their discussion turned to the newbie on their rival show - Jenny McCarthy. According to Chen, the actress is not providing the program the stability and structured diversity it needs.

"What made The View so popular and so good was that you had five different women from different walks of life discussing politics," Chen explained, according to the Los Angeles Times. "And when... Joy [Behar] left and when Elisabeth [Hasselbeck] left, and they got Jenny in, I think they were trying to lighten the mood at the table. More gossip, more fun, more laughs. Jenny is beautiful and funny and talented and smart. In my opinion, The View doesn't know what it is now."

Despite this, the ABC show is still pulling in decent ratings. Early November saw the series pull in 2.97 million for the week while The View had 2.75 million in the same week, according to The Wrap.

McCarthy doesn't seem to have hindered the show too much, and when announcing McCarthy as one of The View's new co-hosts last July, Barbara Walter's seemed to know just what the program was getting into, calling the new member "fun and uninhibited" (see video below).

McCarthy has not responded to Chen's statement.
