2013 was a great year for television, with some of the genre's best shows producing their best seasons yet.

Many TV critics have assembled lists of their top 10 shows of 2013, coming to the same general consensus on the quality of a lot of shows. Critic aggregate metacritic.com has put together a running total of shows that have appeared on multiple lists, assigning more points to shows that are ranked no. 1.

The no. 10 show of 2013 according to TV critics is American Horror Story, the miniseries that produces a new horror concept each season. Tying  at no. 8 is NBC's low-rated but critically acclaimed Hannibal, based on the infamous Hannibal Lecter serial killer and Top of the Lake, the mystery miniseries based in New Zealand and starring Elisabeth Moss.

The no. 5 slot is a three-way tie between critics darlings The Good Wife and Mad Men and the new CIA drama The Americans. No. 4 goes to Enlightened, the barely watched dramedy on HBO about a woman looking to expose corruption in her company.

The no. 3 show of 2013 is Game of Thrones, the fantasy epic that reached new depths this season. No. 2 goes to Orange is the New Black, the women's prison drama on Netflix with a diverse cast of characters.

Finally, the no. 1 show of 2013 according to critics is Breaking Bad. The AMC drama went out on top with a huge increase in viewers, who witnessed the downfall of chemistry teacher-turned-meth cook Walter White.
