'Game of Thrones' Season 4 Premiere: The Red Viper, Ellaria PHOTOS from the Set Revealed [VIDEO]
Two of the most significant new Game of Thrones characters have been photographed on the set as filming continues on season 4.
Several new photos from the set of Game of Thrones were uploaded to Imgur this week featuring the new characters Oberyn Martell, a.k.a. The Red Viper, and his lover Ellaria Sand. The photos feature Pedro Pascal and Indira Varma as The Red Viper and Ellaria Sand, respectively, standing next to the Martell sigil.
Another photo features The Red Viper standing next to Gregor Clegane (Hafthor Julius Bjornsson), a.k.a. The Mountain. See the photo album here.
The Red Viper is a very important character that first appears in the second half of A Storm of Swords, the third book in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novel series. Along with Ellaria, he travels to King's Landing for the wedding of King Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) and Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer).

The wedding proves to be almost as disastrous as the Red Wedding, though it may evoke a different response from the audience. At the wedding feast, King Joffrey takes a drink of his wine and discovers that it has been poisoned. His mother Cersei (Lena Headey) accuses Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) as the culprit, and The Red Viper serves as one of the judges at Tyrion's trial.

His trial is decided by combat, and The Red Viper serves as Tyrion's representative in the combat. Though he has the advantage through most of the combat, his opponent The Mountain ends up killing him. Ellaria is shocked and horrified by the turn of events.
Game of Thrones season 4 premieres in spring 2014 on HBO, though the network has not yet scheduled a premiere date yet.
