Homeland season 4 will be very different from the previous three seasons, according to executive producer Howard Gordon.

Gordon opened up to critics at the Television Critics Association press tour this week about the fourth season and where he sees it going.

"Obviously it's going to require a fair bit of reinvention, but [showrunner] Alex [Gansa] and his team are inheriting a lot of players still on the board, most notably Carrie [Claire Danes]," Gordon told Zap2It at the press tour. "I mean, we always conceived of the show really early as the axis of Carrie and Saul [Mandy Patinkin]; [it] is so powerful, and those characters have so much more in them."

One of the biggest changes to the season will be Carrie adjusting to motherhood.

"Carrie, her maternity will obviously play into it," Gordon revealed. When asked if the baby would not be in the picture in the new season, Gordon firmly stated, "No, no no no," confirming that this would not be the case.

Gansa and his team of writers will be convening within the next few weeks to plan out season 4 properly.

"It's such a remarkable group of writers and actors. I want what everyone else wants: A good show," Gordon says. "I don't think you can ever go backwards. You can only go forwards. We'll see [if there will be another big question mark]. We'll see."
