Once Upon a Time will be airing an episode that features Rapunzel (guest star Alexandra Metz), but it won't exactly be the Rapunzel people are used to.

The first photo of Once Upon a Time's Rapunzel has been released through TV Guide and features the long-haired princess looking dour next to Prince Charming/David (Josh Dallas). Once co-creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz told the publication that this will not be an adaptation of Tangled, the 2010 Disney animated film based on the story of Rapunzel.

"We're not doing Tangled; we're doing our spin on the character," Horowitz confirmed.

"We went a little darker and freakier," Kitsis added. "A little more horror story in the vein of [the 2004 movie] The Grudge."

The episode will feature Rapunzel being paid a visit by Prince Charming in addition to a "mysterious hooded menace." While the TV Guide report speculated that the hooded figure could be the Wicked Witch of the West (guest star Rebecca Mader), the actress was tight-lipped.

"I can't tell you," Mader told the publication. Viewers will first be introduced to Rapunzel in episode 14, which is the third episode after returning from the show's winter hiatus. It is not known if the character will appear in episodes beyond episode 14, however.

Once Upon a Time season 3 returns with its midseason premiere on Sunday, March 9 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
