Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) will be trying to balance work and family in one of the more dangerous locations in the world when Homeland returns for its fourth season.

Homeland Showrunner "Hopes" Dana Brody Will Be Back In the Future

Homeland executive producer Howard Gordon recently spoke with TVGuide.com about what Carrie's story would be in Season 4, and it looks like it won't be easy for the often brilliant CIA agent.

"The story finds Carrie in an emotional space that is very much a continuation of last year's story, and the specter of Brody [Damian Lewis] is still felt very strongly," Gordon said.

While Carrie was debating on keeping the baby or not by the end of Homeland's third season, it appears that she will be keeping it and raising it.

"This year tells the story of Carrie and her evolution as CIA officer but also as a woman, who now turns out to be a mother," Gordon revealed.

Production on Homeland is currently underway in Cape Town, South Africa, which is doubling for Islamabad and Kabul, where Carrie is the Chief of Station.

The fourth season of Homeland is expected to be quite different from the first three seasons, which were largely based in the U.S. As such, the series will likely be more international and focused on geopolitics than ever before.

Homeland Season 4 premieres in fall 2014 on Showtime, though the network has not yet announced a specific air date. It will likely be returning to its regular Sundays at 9 p.m. timeslot.
