Breaking Amish star Bates wanted to pursue a career as an actor after he came to New York, but he could learn it'll be a lot tougher than to be successful with it than he thought.

Bates And Matt Head Back To Ohio

"I'm very, very nervous, this is all new for me. I don't know what to expect, this is kind of like the moment of truth pretty much for me," he says in a preview clip for the Thursday, Nov. 6 episode, titled What Tomorrow May Bring.

Sure enough, his nerves may get the best of him as he will run into trouble during the class, as he continually draws a blank during each of the assignments his teacher gives the students.

Bates Says 'He's Out'

"Bates has a lot of work in front of him if he really thinks he wants to be an actor," the teacher says in the clip.

And though his nerves are certainly contributing to his problems in class, his teacher does suspect that his background will have more to do with it.

"Bates is going to have a challenge just coming from his Amish background," he says. "It's a very conservative background. He's just got to not think about it, just go up there, and do it."

And though Bates has an initial bad experience with the class, he will eventually warm up and begin doing better, and will leave more sure than ever that acting is what he wants to do.

"it took me a minute to get warmed up to the class because honestly, that's not who I was raised to be," he says. "I was raised up to be quiet, stay in the shadows, not make a big deal out of myself. I think I did okay and I think I'll keep doing it."

Breaking Amish airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. on TLC.
