Way into the game's second half, the score was still 0-0. Canada and France were playing it hard in the women's soccer bronze medal match on Aug. 9 but in the end, Canada prevailed - managing to sneak in one single goal, with secured the medal for them.

In the first half, France's Sonia Bompastor got a foul on the 2 minute mark, committed by Jonelle Filigno and only three minutes later, the same happened for Canada's midfielder, Diana Matheson, and France's Gaetnae Thiney. With more than a dozen fouls in the game, both teams desperately wanted the bronze medal.

But in the second half, at the 90 minute mark, Matheson, 28, scored the first and only goal of the game, winning the bronze for Team Canada.

Team Canada's captain, Christine Sinclair, 29, is the country's all-time leading scorer and third all-time leading scorer in all of women's soccer. She made her Olympic debut in the 2008 Beijing Games

Canada lost 3-4 against USA in the semifinals on Aug. 6 and but won against Great Britain in the quarterfinals, 2-0.

France's captain is midfielder Sandrine Soubeyrand, 39. Her team lost to Japan in the semifinals, 2-1 but prevailed over Sweden in the quarterfinals with 2-1.
