Here are some of the athletes competing in the women's 1,500-meter finals on Aug. 10:

Representing Team USA is Shannon Rowbury and Morgan Uceny. Rowbury competed in the 2008 Olympics and won bronze in the 1,500-meter at the 2009 World Championships. The 1,500-meter is the only race at the London Games that the 28-year-old will compete in. Uceny came in second in her heat during round one of the relay with a clocked time of 4:06.87. She won her first national time in the 15,00-meter mark in 2011 and that same year, she won the Diamond League 15,000-meter title, according to NBC.

Turkey also has two of its athletes competing in the finals. Gamze Bulut ranked overall second in the semifinals with a time of 4:01.18 seconds, the athlete's personal best time.  During round 1, she came in first in her heat and will now have to compete in the finals against fellow Turk Asli Cakir Alptekin. The 27-year-old from Antalya took  the no. 1 spot in her heat during  the 1,500-meter semifinals, finishing in 4:05.11 seconds.

Ranking no. 1 overall in both the semifinals and the round 1 relay is Etheopia's Abeba Aregawi. She clocked in at 4:01.03 in the semifinals and has many betting that she will reign on top again at the final race.

The current world record was set by China's Yunxia Qu in 1993 with a time of 3:50.46.
