The "Fifty Shades of Grey" series is doing big business, and not just in books.

Retailers across the country credit the trilogy with boosting sales, and expectations are rising for how much money can be squeezed out of the erotic novels.

The most obvious merchandise? The books themselves, which Barnes and Noble directly credited with heightening the retail chain's profits for the second quarter of 2012. The bookstore said same-store growth across the country has come from "the liquidation of Borders' bookstores in fiscal 2012 and strong sales of the Fifty Shades of Grey series."

But the "Fifty Shades" boom goes much further than bookshelves.

Church & Dwight, the company that owns Trojan condoms, told the Wall Street Journal that vibrator sales have increased exponentially since the E.L. James series took off in popularity.

"[Church and Dwight] CEO Jim Craigie says he's pleased with distribution and sales of the Trojan brand's Vibrations line of sexual devices, 'which we believe has been aided by the popularity of the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' novel,'" the WSJ reported.

Even Babeland, a sex toy marketplace, has seen sales skyrocket by 40 percent in recent months, which includes enormous increases in sales of bondage toys, the AP reports.

And "Fifty Shades" isn't done yet. With a buzz-worthy movie on the horizon and even more merchandise planned for the future - including iPad cases and wall decals - it seems retailers still have much pleasure to gain from Christian Grey's pain.
