The nature of Wolverine makes him one of the easiest characters to incorporate into an X-Men film.

Rose Byrne Returning As CIA Agent For 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) doesn't age and has remained a fan-favorite from the original franchise. He had a cameo in 2011 for X-Men: First Class and recently starred in X-Men: Days of Future Past alongside the new cast. His return in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse is considered a sure thing by many, and yet fans are still awaiting an official announcement.

According to Screenrant back in January, both writer Simon Kinberg and Jackman have refused to confirm Wolverine's return.

Sophie Turner Sums Up 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Casting With Three Little Letters

"I'm not at liberty to tell exactly…" explained Jackman. "[But] there's some really cool things going on."

Set in the 1980s, the new X-Men film will see the return of James MacAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique.

The Marvel-inspired flick will also introduce a new set if young actors for some of the franchise's most iconic roles. In January director Bryan Singer announced that HBO's Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner would be coming on board as Jean Grey, with Tye Sheridan (Mud) appearing as Cyclops and Alexandra Shipp (Aaliyah: The Princess Of R&B) playing Storm.

At this time, Jackman has not signed a contract to reprise his role for the upcoming film.

X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled to hit theatres May 27, 2016.
