France had a very brief stay at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, after receiving only one point out all their three group matches.

"Our performances were just not good enough for us to hope to reach the next round. I would like to apologise on behalf of all of the players," said Florent Malouda, France's midfielder. "We'll talk about it as a group. It's a difficult thing to go through. We're not proud of what we did, and I don't know how we can make up for it."

However, they might regain momentum this time around. They already made it to the qualifying round and their ability to qualify for the 2010 World Cup was their first time reaching the finals after four consecutive failed attempts. So they are only improving.

Belarus needs some improvements as well. They are currently 46th in team rankings, according to FIFA.com. They has failed to ever reach the finals since joining FIFA in 1992.

Even so, the official site of the FIFA games said that team Belarus is, "beginning to emerge as a force to be reckoned with on the European scene."

"The secret to their growing stature has been a tight defensive discipline allied with a combative spirit, not to mention the impressive technique of several leading squad members," the site stated.

Americans call it soccer, others call it football. Whatever the term is, the FIFA World Cup is hosted this year by Brazil and the sporting tournament is played every four years since it began in 1930, except when it was held off twice because of World War II. The current qualifying phase, also known as the Preliminary Competition, involves a total of 204 teams across six continents competing for 31 available spots in the 2014 World Cup Final Competition. Teams compete in the preliminaries for three years leading up to the final competition.

Spain won the 2010 South Africa FIFA World Cup.
