The most memorable part of episode 5 on "The X Factor USA" was a surprise appearance by a legendary rock star that has always had the "x factor" of his own.

Gene Simmons, the most famous member of the iconic 70's rock band KISS, attended "The X Factor USA" season 2 auditions in San Francisco to support his daughter, Sophie Tweed-Simmons.

Tweed-Simmons told the show's cameras in the pre-audition tape she had hoped the judges wouldn't learn who her parents are because she wanted to be her "own person."

Despite the declaration, the 19-year-old confirmed who her dad is unexpectedly.

When asked by Simon Cowell to state her name she replied, "I'm Sophie Tweed-Simmons.

Cowell's fellow judge Demi Lovato immediately figured out who she was and announced the connection to her famous rock star father. "I know you," Demi said. "You're Nick's sister... Nick Simmons, Gene Simmons' kid."

"You're Gene Simmons' daughter?" asked Cowell.

Tweed-Simmons expressed disappointment when they realized who she was. She then revealed she did not tell her famous parents about the tryout until the day before.

"They didn't know I was doing this until yesterday and they're pretty upset with me," said the college student. "I just didn't want any help," she added.

After Tweed-Simmons performed Adele's "Make You Feel My Love" the judges gave her honest and critical feedback. Not all of them were impressed by her singing abilities.

"I think that if you got a little bit more control, you could be really, really great," said Lovato.

"I think you have an amazing voice," Britney Spears added.

"I think you've got a very, very interesting tone to your voice," said Cowell. "I like the fact that you took on the song. You kind of made it your version. That's the way to do it."

"No," L.A. Reid simply replied.

After her audition aired on television, Tweed-Simmons thanked her fans on Twitter.

"Thank everyone for your support. I'm not trying to be the best singer I'm just on a journey to be myself," she tweeted.

Simmons is the key bassist for the legendary rock band KISS. He has appeared in numerous television shows in te past decade including "Celebrity Apprentice," "Castle" and his own reality show starring his family, "Gene Simmons" Family Jewels."

Tweed-Simmons' mother is Shannon Tweed, a former Playboy model and actress. She married Simmons in 2011 after dating for 28 years. The couple have two children together.
