Since iOS 6 has arrived it has garnered mixed reviews from users.

Now people with older generation iPhones who have upgraded to the new operating system have experienced a new issue: a quicker drain on their batteries.

The iOS 6 was designed primarily for Apple's new iPhone 5 where it comes pre-installed, but many users are getting their first taste on their older devices which don't quite match up to the power. The battery life for iPhone 5 hasn't had many issues, but that's not the case all around.

According to InformationWeek, after testing the new iPhone and older versions, iOS 6 drains more battery on the older phones. The phones tested included the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S with the same apps installed on an iPhone 5 along with similar data usage turned off on all devices. They found that the batteries have had a negative relationship with the new operating system since updating causing them to have a hard time handling a full day of usage.

Apple has given suggestions on how to help users' battery life by turning off the location services and new apps.

That doesn't seem to have worked for many as users are having major problems which include a dead battery after only a few hours even with the advice.

"100 percent at 8am this morning when I took it off the charger," John Smith 1882 commented on the Apple Support Forum.  "0 percent within four hours. No calls. No GPS, no Internet use, but battery was dropping one percent every few minutes. I turned off location services, no change."

Apple has received numerous complaints over their new Maps app which replaced Google Maps.

"We launched this new map service knowing that it is a major initiative and we are just getting started with it," Apple's Trudy Muller said in a statement. "We are continuously improving it, and as Maps is a cloud-based solution, the more people use it, the better it will get."

It looks like a new upgrade is needed for older iPhones to see if battery life too will get better.
