Are they or aren't they dating? Singer and "X Factor" judge Demi Lovato can't seem to give a straight answer as to whether or not she and "One Direction" member Niall Horan are in a relationship.

However, an insider at The Mirror said the pop stars are casually dating.

"Demi's told the guys backstage she and Niall are loosely dating - it's casual but they are definitely dating, albeit long-distance," the source said.

Well what is going on between the duo? They were seen having an "intimate" dinner at Pink Taco after the MTV VMA's in Los Angeles on Sept. 7. An eye witness told Celebuzz, "It looked like a first date."

"He knows I have a little crush on him, and we enjoy having dinner when we get the chance," Lovato said of her relationship with Niall to The Mirror. "We speak and message all the time."

But Lovato said she does not want a long-distance relationship. "I don't want a relationship over Skype; we are both in a place where we feel zero pressure to rush. We share the philosophy that the right one is worth waiting for."

Plus, they are both really busy.

"It has been a crazy year for One Direction and I have been concentrating on The X Factor and also my well-being."

During her interview with The Mirror, Lovato maintained that Niall would be her ideal partner.

"He has a lot of great qualities. He is an amazing listener and makes me laugh a lot, two of the main qualities I look for."

In the November issue of Teen Vogue, Lovato insisted that they were just friends. She told the magazine that she needs to be on her own - and be OK --before she can be with somebody else. Lovato has been open about her struggles with bulimia and cutting, which she went to rehab for two years ago. She has also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

She told Teen Vogue: "He's a really awesome, sweet guy. But he's not my boyfriend.... I'm in a place right now where I really need to focus on myself. Obviously, I'm still going to like people-or love them-but I need to not be in a relationship for a while because I need to be okay with being alone, first. I'm really happy right now. I never thought it was possible to be happy because of how depressed I was my entire life. But I feel so incredible. It's like I'm living in a dream."
