ABC announced Thursday that they were renewing Castle for its eighth season, along with a slew of other shows. There has been a lot of confusion over whether the show would return again, with stars Nathan Fillion (who plays Castle) and Stana Katic (Beckett) negotiating new contracts for several months.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that sources believe Katic is close to signing a new contract for season 8. It was previously announced in April that Fillion had signed the dotted line to return.

The show does not yet have a new show runner though. David Amann, who became the show's new boss in season 7, is stepping down from the role after just one year. A new show runner has not yet been named. Castle creator Andrew W. Marlowe had previously served as show runner through the show's first six seasons. He remains an executive producer on the crime procedural.

Overall, this is great news for Castle fans heading into the season 7 finale on Monday.

Marlowe previously spoke with Entertainment Weekly about how the show will not radically change things in the season 7 finale, unlike another infamous ABC show did recently.

"I think that we can say that if we were to come back next year, we would be coming back with all of our pieces intact. It's not a Grey's Anatomy situation by any means," Marlowe said, referring to the show killing off Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey in a recent episode).

Castle airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
