Fans of ABC's recently wrapped twisty mystery Secrets and Lies didn't have to wait too long to find out if the show would be back for another season, as ABC has already announced plans to bring the series back for another run during their 2015-2016 season.

A Shocking Character Death Revealed In Finale

The show, which was initially a 10 episode event starring Ryan Phillippe and Juliette Lewis, was announced as part of a large number of shows ABC is bringing back with the new television season, including other popular drama series' Castle, Scandal, How To Get Away With Murder, and Grey's Anatomy, as well as other shows and most of the network's comedies.

Secrets and Lies performed with a steady audience throughout its 10-week run, reaching a series high in views during its May 3 finale, which revealed who killed Tom Murphy, and appeared to tie up any loose ends involving Phillippe's character of Ben Crawford. However, Phillippe has had to take to social media once again to inform fans that he only signed on for the 10-episode first season, and his character would not be present in round two.

Is Ben Taking The Fall For Tom's Real Killer?

"I'm so happy and excited for all involved that Secrets and Lies will return for another season. Congrats to Juliette, Barbie Kligman, Aaron Kaplan & the writers. Since there seems to be some confusion...the 1st season was a/b a man accused, his family, and how he ultimately sacrifices himself for them. That story has been told to completion, this season, aw was always the intent. I know the next story will be just as compelling. Though I won't be back, I will be watching & we all appreciate the fans who made this show a real success with its renewal," he tweeted.

The only character confirmed to be returning for the new mystery will be Lewis' Detective Andrea Cornell, as she takes on a new case. And though some fans may be upset to hear that Phillippe and other members of the first season's core cast--which also included Dan Fogler, KaDee Strickland, Natalie Martinez, Indiana Evans and Belle Shouse--aren't returning, a new mystery would be an entirely fresh story. Season one was based on the Australian limited-run event of the same name, whereas season two would likely be able to keep all fans guessing, with no known influence on the storyline.

The casting announcement and plot for the new season has not yet been revealed, nor has an expected premiere date.
