The Fox miniseries screened "The Truth" at ATX Television Festival on Friday, and fan reaction indicates that this lynchpin episode will throw a major curveball for anyone who thought they might have figured out the secret of Idaho's most mysterious town.

"Just saw next week's #WaywardPines at #ATXTVs4, and wow, that is not at all where I thought this show was going," one attendee wrote while another said there are "only two words to describe next week's episode 5 of #WaywardPines-OMG & WTF!"

While many viewers would expect the mystery of Wayward Pines to carry through the episode 10 finale, director M. Night Shyamalan recently explained why the series chose to pull the rip cord only halfway through.

"You never want to put that paradigm shift [a twist] at the very end because you want to live in the new world, and this allows me to live in that new world for the whole second half of a season," Shyamalan told OverMental.
