Sometimes, filming a sex scene is not all fun and games, as one Orange Is the New Black star found out.

Laura Prepon Talks Alex Feeling 'Hopeless' in 'Orange Is the New Black' Season 3

Taylor Schilling, who plays Piper Chapman on the Netflix prison dramedy, accidentally cut herself in the face while filming a sex scene with Laura Prepon (who plays Alex Vause) for season 3. Schilling and Prepon recalled this in a new interview with Cosmopolitan UK.

"When you're doing a love scene, especially a hate-sex love scene where you're beating each other up and making love, that's an interesting dynamic!" Prepon said. "Those scenes are always so technical, especially where we're beating each other up. One scene she got cut in the face and there was blood on her cheek."

As Schilling recalled, "I scratched myself. You can see that, it was awful. I gouged my chin with the tag and we had to add the scar into the rest of the season."

The incident happened as Schilling was trying to take her top off, and ended up scratching up her face with her tag in the process.

"I'm noticing this thing where I do it and I think, 'Ooh, wow! That was kind of wild!'," Schilling added. "Then I [talk about it] and it's a whole other experience to prepare yourself for. I don't know how to deal with that part of it."

Despite the injuries sustained, the show clearly benefited from Schilling's full commitment to the passionate scene.

Orange Is the New Black season 3 was just released on Netflix, and fans can watch all 13 new episodes now.
