Marvel is keeping Martin Freeman's Captain America: Civil War role under wraps, but that hasn't stopped the actor from dropping a few cryptic hints of his own.

'Agents Of SHIELD' Season 3 Spoilers: Time Jump Announced, Simmons Missing The Whole Time?

Freeman, who has remained tight lipped about his involvement over the last few months, finally teased his Civil War involvement while speaking with Bad Taste at the Giffoni Experience in Italy.

"We can say that he works for the government," Freeman teased. "He works in conjunction with the superheroes and certain agencies that help to tame the superheroes. So you're not quite sure which side he's on."

Is he with SHIELD? Is he with SWORD? Neither? As mysterious as Freeman's affiliations are, it appears his intentions will be even more inscrutable. Instead of presenting audiences with a clear-cut villain/hero dynamic, it appears Freeman's unnamed character will keep viewers guessing until the very end.

"It looks a little bit like he's playing one game when actually he's playing another," Freeman explained. "It's the kind of character I like because it's ambiguous and because you don't know whether he's good or bad. I like that area that isn't black or white, I like the grays, because I think there's just more fun to be had in not playing one obvious line."

It sounds like viewers will have to keep a particularly close eye on the Brit when Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6. After Winter Soldier, Marvelites are well aware that enemies can be particularly hard to spot (see video below).
