Fans of FX's American Horror Story are desperate for any piece of information regarding the upcoming sixth season and while the concept still hasn't been announced, let's look at everything we know so far.

American Horror Story showrunner Ryan Murphy and company are taking a very different approach to promoting the next season of the horror anthology series. Instead of announcing the concept and much of the cast in the spring, fans have mostly been left in the dark.

However, there have been a few news items released about season 6, so let's put them all together and see what we have so far.

First off, Murphy announced at PaleyFest in March that they had been working on two different concepts for season 6.

"The interesting thing about this season is we've been working on two ideas at once, which we've never done," Murphy said, upon being asked about season 6. "So I don't want to say what it maybe is.... Both things that we're writing right now -- we haven't declared a winner -- will have a different form, so we're excited about that. We'll talk about it soon, but we haven't landed on it yet."

He did say that both concepts involve "elements of children," explaining, "If you look at horror tropes, the innocence of children, that sort of wide-eyed entryway into some world is always very dramatic and satisfying."

Stars Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Denis O'Hare, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Finn Wittrock and Cheyenne Jackson all attended the event as well, with Murphy saying that they all could come back for season 6 if they wanted to. However, he did not officially confirm that they all would.

In the mean time, many stars have alluded to their involvement with season 6. Bassett has been the most vocal about it, saying her character might be "psychic" and have some alcohol problems. She also teased that Paulson's character has a connection to her character, which seems to suggest that Paulson is involved in season 6 too, though the actress has not confirmed this.

Other stars have said they are coming back, including Peters, Wittrock, Bomer, and Jackson, in addition to season 3 guest star Leslie Jordan.

As for the concept of season 6 itself, it's still a mystery. FX president John Landgraf announced back in January that the season is "set in two time periods, but principally in the present." This breaks from tradition considering the odd-numbered seasons have all been set in the present while the even-numbered seasons have all be set in the past. However, this was announced in January so it's possible that the plans have changed.

Nowadays, fans are speculating about the new photo that has shown up on all of American Horror Story's social media pages. The photo features a red number six and a question mark combined into one, and while this is clearly a reference to the unknown concept for season 6, some suggest it might be a sign that the theme will be centered on the devil or the antichrist (666).

Filming has already begun on season 6, so we may be getting a concept soon.

UPDATE: FX just announced that season 6 will premiere on Sept. 14 instead of the usual October.

American Horror Story season 6 premieres this fall on FX.
