Many American Horror Story fans are speculating about a cryptic new photo that has shown up on all of the show's social media pages.

With the season 6 theme still unknown, fans of American Horror Story are still making theories about what the new concept might be. After months of being silent about the new season, the Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus pages for American Horror Story have finally been updated.

Each of the social media pages now has a new avatar with the number six combined with a question mark, using the iconic American Horror Story typeface. The obvious meaning behind this is that the concept for season 6 is still a mystery, but is there more to it?

Many Twitter users have offered their theories on what the new symbol might mean for the season 6 concept.

American Horror Story showrunner Ryan Murphy has only said a few select things about season 6. The megaproducer spoke at PaleyFest in March about how they were working on two different themes at once, and hadn't decided which one to go with.

"The interesting thing about this season is we've been working on two ideas at once, which we've never done," Murphy said, when asked about season 6. "So I don't want to say what it maybe is.... Both things that we're writing right now -- we haven't declared a winner -- will have a different form, so we're excited about that. We'll talk about it soon, but we haven't landed on it yet."

Murphy did add that both ideas feature "elements of children," explaining, "If you look at horror tropes, the innocence of children, that sort of wide-eyed entryway into some world is always very dramatic and satisfying."

American Horror Story has frequently utilized children from the beginning, with the child who would grow up to become the Antichrist in Murder House to the bloodsucking children in Hotel.

American Horror Story season 6 begins this fall on FX.
