Stranger Things has a lot of announcements to make.

The iconic 80s set Netflix series Stranger Things has been preparing fans for season four for quite some time. Today, however, the creators of the show, The Duffer Brothers, penned a letter with a lot of news no one was quite expecting. Like, are we sure we are not in the upside down right now?

First of all, the letter explained that season four has proved to be a behemoth. Therefore, it has made a split. Fans of the show can now expect a seasons four and five. This was the best way to ensure that the team was able to give the incredible story justice and avoid leaving mass amounts of nuance and detail on the cutting room floor. The letter read:

Given the unprecedented length, and to get it to you as soon as possible, Season 4 will be released in two volumes. Volume One will release on May 27th; Volume Two will release five weeks later on July 1st. So that's the good news. It's coming soon...And it's bigger than ever.

As we know from, well, our time on this earth being people, when someone says, "So that's the good news," it more often than not means that there is bad news on the way. As it turns out, this unexpected season five will be the final season of the much beloved show. Matt and Ross Duffer wrote:

It's also the beginning of the end. Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things. At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. it proved too large to tell in four, but--as you'll soon see for yourselves--we are no hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last.
