As pre-production for the third chapter of Insidious is in full swing, director Leigh Whannell via Twitter made the major announcement about Dermot Mulroney playing the lead in the movie on June 25.

Third Chapter Of Indie Horror Flick To Release In September Next Year?

"HUGELY excited to officially announce that great actor/great human Dermot Mulroney has been cast as one of the leads in Insidious Chapter 3!" Whannell tweeted.

Seems like Mulroney will helm the new phase of the Insidious series taking the lead role as Patrick Wilson did in the first two Insidious movies. Though this is not to say that Mulroney will be replacing Wilson's character in the series, as it was revealed earlier this year that Insidious 3 will feature new characters.

Insidious 2 Cliffhanger To Be Resolved In The Third Movie?  

Mulroney's last major movie was August: Osage County which released in December last year.

It was recently also announced that A.N.T Farm star Stephanie Scott will be joining the cast of Insidious 3 on June 11.

Whannell also announced Scott joining the cast via Twitter:

"@StefanieScott was amazing to work with on #JemTheMovie & I know she's going to make #Insidious3 very special! -JB" -- he tweeted via his production house page on June 12. 

Blum (Blumhouse Productions) will be co-producing the third film with Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity).  

Insidious: Chapter 2 was released on Sept. 13 and topped the U.S. box office scoring $41.1 million over in its opening weekend. The film stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Ty Simpkins, and Barbara Hershey reprised their roles from the first film in the series.

The first film followed the story of the haunted Lambert family, whose son inexiplicably enters a comatose state and becomes a vessel for demons. In Insidious: Chapter 2, the married couple try to explore the secrets that tie them to the paranormal world and the demons that possessed their son.

The first installment in the franchise, Insidious, was made for only $1.5 million and released in 2010. The film went on to gross $97 million worldwide. Insidious: Chapter 2 was made for $5 million.

Insidious 3 will release in April 2015.
